What Makes a Company Investable?

In terms of things that would pique our interest from the investment perspective, it is certainly evidence of competitive advantage and market share. Most startups make the mistake of conceiving of MVP as proving or showing that they can. Engineers are brilliant people and I have no doubt that they can build what they have in mind or what they're hoping to deliver. What matters to an investor is in fact whether or not it's going to fail. Because at that MVP stage, at the seed stage, the fact is a good 85% of all startups fail. So what we’re looking for is proof that a startup has a distinct competitive advantage. We learn what teams are capable of and that there are demand and market share for that.

As an investor, what we're looking for is expertise, competitive advantage, and the ability to seize the market share. Because I know you build it. I know that's going to be incredible. Once we're certain that a solution will work and won't fail, then we discuss the number of funds needed, but first, we just want to constantly reassure us that at the very least, you're going to have a successful business.
